3-05-08 ~ 1-1 Box Submerged

Crews from Engine 1 were busy all day Tuesday working on the ongoing
renovation projects at the station when around 0200hrs on Wednesday
(while the crew was painting) Northumberland County Communications alerted
Engine 1 to Beech St. & Butternut Streets for residential flooding. Engine 1
arrived on location to find that the manhole was raised 4inch off the ground
with an overflow of water coming out onto the street. Engines 1 remained out
on the road for 8 hours and handle 48 homes in the borough itself while the
rest of MCFD handled other calls in the 1-1 box totaling in over 60 calls for
the night. All crews From Engines 1, 2, 3, 4 secured utilities and assisted
homeowners in many ways. When the engine went back in service it was
repeatedly called out for more flooded basements engine 1 remained staffed
with 3 the rest of the day while returning to many homes to assist with
restoring utilities. Total flooding calls for the day total 56.

3-05-08 ~ Box Alarm @ 311 W 5th Street

While operating on many flood conditions, Engine 1 was called for a flood
condition in the basement of 311 W 5th street. Capt 1 began the
investigation while the rest of the crew tended to the neighbors who were
also complaining of water in their basements. Capt 1 was descending into the
basement when he found a smoke condition and notified Chief 1 to start the
box. The crew from Engine 1 then set up the engine while sending a crew to
investigated. E1 & E4 operated in the interior to find that the flooding in the
basement burned up the furnace motor. Engine 3 stood by at a hydrant at
5th and Beech streets, Engine 2 to staged while Truck 2 prepared to go to
work. All units placed in-service in 10 mins and returned to their previous call.

3-05-08 ~ 4-1 Box Investigation of Fluids down

Crews from Engine 1 were already on the road when Engine 1 received a call
for 23 West Railroad Street for an investigation of an unknown fluid. The
homeowner informed NCCC that it was going to be to the rear of the home
on the Pear street side. Engine 1 investigated with 3 to determine a good
intent call and placed the box in service.
3-09-08 ~ Company 1 busy with renovations

Station 1 has been busy fixing up the station in preparations for the arrival of
our new American Lafrance Engine. Crews have been working around the
clock, painting, spackling, etc. The station is currently fixing up the hallways, ”
Greenroom," Truck room & basement. Check back often for updates and
pictures.
3-10 -08 ~ Meetings

Attention members! There will be a truck committee meeting at 1830hrs and
we will have our monthly company meeting at 1930 on Wed. March 12th. All
members are encouraged to attend.  
3-16 -08 ~ Possible Structure Fire

While the members were at our company meeting, NCCC dispatched the
MCFD (Mount Carmel Fire Department) to the 400-blk of West Olive street.
Engine 1 responded in seconds with 6 and laid out from 2nd and Willow
Streets, and sent a crew to investigate. Truck 2 arrived on location to
investigate the chimney, while Engine 2 secured a secondary water supply at
Willow and 3rd streets. Engine 3 prepared to lay in from Birch and Olive
streets. Rescue 5 sent a crew to help investigate. Units placed in-service
within 40mins

3-23 -08 ~State Representative Bob Belfanti's office at

The Mount Carmel Fire Department was alerted to respond to 15 West
Avenue at around 0100hrs after Mount Carmel Police Officer Todd Owens
(Station 1 Life Member), who was working at the time, spotted heavy smoke
coming from the State Representatives' office. Officer Owens called for the
box and the Units were out. Rescue 5 was first on scene in seconds notifying
NCCC that it was a confirmed fire attached to row homes. Rescue 5 made a
quick knock on the fire with 3 fire extinguishers while Chief 2 arrived on
location and established command. Truck 2 responded and positioned on
Second/Ave while E2 Laid out from Ave/Oak and began to advance lines (see
www.station2.org for more info on Station 2). Engine 1 arrived on location at
the same time as E2 and laid out from Ave/Maple and advanced a line that
Rescue 5 advanced into the structure. E1 then advanced a 2nd line to the
attached home and check for extension with a crew from E3 that established
an additional water supply. Crews from 1 & 3 ventilated the attached home
and found no extension. Command marked control in 20mins. A State Police
Fire Marshall investigated with units from MCFD and determining that the fire
was arson. Due to the ongoing investigation pictures from the fire will be
limited.

3-28-08 ~WSF 343 West Cherry
While the crew was at the station considering fundraising ideas, NCCC alerted
MCFD to the area of Cherry & Beech Streets on the 4-1 box for a possible
fire. Engine 1 was out in 1 minute with 5 as was Engine Truck 2 and Engine 2.
Engine 2 L/O from Avenue and Beech Streets and advanced a line into the
confirmed WSF at 343 Cherry Street. Engine 1 prepared to assist with
pressurizing Engine 3 L/O from Beech and Second Streets and advanced a
line to the rear of the structure. A crew from Engine 1 secured a back up line
and prepared to enter the building on S/A. Crews From Station 2 made a
quick knock on the fire with Engine 3 advancing a line in the rear of the
structure. Rescue 5 split crews and secured utilities as well as S & R.  Engine
1 then assisted with overhaul and checking for extension. While Engine 1 was
packing up NCCC alert a MCTWP box that was located at Boyer’s Food Mart.
Chief 1 released Engine 1 as well as R5 Tk2 to respond on the box for an
Automatic Fire Alarm. Crews found a water flow alarm and the box was placed
in-service within 20mins and Engine 1 returned to service.  Station 1 ALS/BLS
was also on the box and established EMS sector.
